Legend has it that dime novelist Ned Buntline presented 12″ Colt revolvers with skeleton shoulder stocks to Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson and other noted Old West figures. While the story is now thought to be a myth, the name “Buntline Special” has become associated with the long-barreled single-actions that were produced on special order at the Colt factory.
