It’s built on the proven architecture of the FNSTM Compact, but every aspect—both internal and external—was scrutinized and analyzed to enhance ergonomics, ammunition compatibili” cold hammer-forged stainless steel barrel, which was upgraded with a recessed target crown for accuracy. Both the slide and barrel geometry have been improved to help lower the bore axis: recoil travels straight into the meat of your hand, where you can best control it, keeping the muzzle on-target for fast follow-up shots. The original sights have been replaced with flat-edge luminescent combat sights that provide fast low-light targeting and can be used to rack the pistol one-handed in an emergency. For durability’s sake, the 509 was outfitted with a captive double-nested recoil spring to reduce wear and enhance what was already a very long expected service life.
