The chrome-lined gas block and chrome-plated piston and regulator work together to provide a smooth power delivery stroke to the bolt carrier. The by-products of the gas system are vented out the bottom of the gas block, away from the bolt carrier, keeping the action clean and free from contaminants. The end result is significantly improved performance over gas driven rifles.

The Ruger SR-556 is a semi-automatic carbine rifle with a reliable two-stage piston-driven operating system for improved performance and a four-position chrome-plated gas regulator that offers the option to fine tune the rifle for specific ammunition or conditions. The 16.12 barrel is cold hammer-forged and chrome-lined for durability and easy cleaning and delivers consistent accuracy while the length of pull can be adjusted through the six-position collapsible synthetic M4-style stock.
